When I think of Wounded Birds Ministry, I think of friendship, community, and acceptance. I remember times when I was feeling overwhelmed and WBM was there for me to freely and openly let our worries or just vent. I always feel accepted and hear, as Teresa takes time to respond to individuals’ posts in a really personal and kind way. But most of all, I love having this group to celebrate the small victories that other people may not understand. “I got out of bed today and I was only 15 minutes late to work” is a sentence that is celebrated in WBM…whereas others outside the group may wonder why it was hard for us to get to work on time in the first place.

I’m really happy I found Wounded Birds Ministry online. I discovered it through a support group. I’m a believer you must advocate for yourself. Belonging to the group has helped me find mental health resources. Several insightful articles are often posted, on subjects I may not have otherwise found on my own. I’ve found group members supportive. The posts are insightful and encourage interaction, which keeps the group enjoyable. Most importantly, the group makes me feel welcomed and lets me know I’m not alone in my recovery efforts. It’s a safe place.

Books We Love

Books have a way of entering our hearts and helping us grow. I especially love memoirs and self-help books because they remind me that I’m not alone in my struggle and I am constantly learning new skills to help me manage my symptoms better and work toward the life I want. Check out the video (coming soon!) to hear me share some of my favorites or check out the complete list here.

Local Resources

Sometimes, the best resource is a local resource. Finding local support groups or people in your local area who can recommend doctors can be a real blessing. Here are a couple of places we suggest you go (US only at this time).

National Alliance on Mental Health

NAMI offers support groups around the country and is recognized as a leader in the mental health arena. Programs and offerings vary by location.

Mental Health Grace Alliance

For those looking for a Christian-based support group, I love the Living Grace groups sponsored by the Mental Health Grace Alliance. Every week, the group covers skills and topics that will help you get healthier from a Biblical perspective. This group is about more than “praying away your fear” or “turning your worries over to God;” the skills you learn here are all backed by scientific research. Also, if there’s no group in your area, they will help you start and lead one.
